Sclerotherapy utilizes injections of a salt-water solution to treat varicose veins and spider veins. The solution acts to irritate the lining of the blood vessel ultimately causing it to collapse and stick together. The blood in the collapsed vessel clots and over time, causes the vessel to turn into scar tissues and disappear.

The Sclerotherapy procedure takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes. The needle used is extremely fine to minimize discomfort. It is common to experience mild cramping for one to two minutes when larger veins are being treated.

Treatment & Results

You will not immediately see results. Typically, spider veins will respond in three to six weeks and varicose veins respond in three to four months. Veins that respond will not need to be retreated, however it is important to remember that new veins may appear and repeat treatments may be necessary.

Post Care

Prior to your Sclerotherapy, we may ask you to avoid certain medications such as aspirin, ibuprofen or other anti-inflammatories for a period of 48-72 hours.
We encourage you to walk and resume your regular daily activities post-treatment. We also advise that you to wear compression leggings or socks to assist with the effectiveness of the treatment. You will need to avoid hot baths, hot compresses, saunas or hot-tubs and exposure to direct sunlight. You will be able to shower but the water temperature should be cooler than normal.
