Microneedling with PRF

Microneedling with Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) Facial Therapy is a revolutionary new anti-wrinkle and volumizing treatment that involves the non-surgical microinjection of your own PRF (extracted from your blood). Similar in procedure to it’s predecessor, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy, this more advanced, next generation of therapy utilizes a more concentrated portion of your blood, the Fibrin, to rapidly stimulate collagen production and cell migration, and create a scaffolding effect beneath the skin resulting in fresher, healthier, stronger and younger looking skin. Although this procedure is relatively new in facial aesthetics, PRP and PRF have been extensively used as an effective treatment for sports injuries, diabetic ulcers and orthopedics for over thirty years.

Treatment & Results

Prior to the procedure you will have your blood drawn by our nurse practitioner. This blood draw is the exact same procedure used by your primary care doctor when blood tests are performed. After your blood is drawn, we process the test tube in a centrifuge to separate its components. Your blood plasma is heavier than your blood serum and typically resides at the bottom of the test tube while your serum rises to the top. We refer to the top portion as your “Liquid Gold”.

The fibrin, which are components of the blood and known for being highly effective in repairing cells, treating burns and skin injuries and creating a “scaffolding” under the skin, are then applied to chosen areas on your face and driven into the skin with microneedling. This process will smooth the skin and plump it up, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and adding volume.

It is important to recognize that when fibrin is injected into the skin, it releases different growth factors, which work to stimulate your own cells. One cell type that is stimulated during this process is the fibroblast cell, which creates collagen. Collagen is what gives our skin its youthful appearance. As we age, collagen is produced less and less (we naturally lose 1% every year from the day we are born) causing wrinkles and fine lines to appear on the surface and below the skin.

Another cell stimulated during the process is the pre-adipocyte cell, which is a precursor to your fat cells. This is especially important in the face to help fill out and smooth lines, while also adding volume to contour the face.

Post Care

After your treatment, your skin will be red and flushed and may feel like a mild sunburn for up to 72 hours. It is possible that you may also experience some tightness, mild swelling and/or peeling. However, these side effects are temporary and should heal by themselves within a few days. Ultimately each patient and procedure is different and therefore healing will occur at its own pace.

Results, such as a healthy glow, can be seen immediately. Other visible improvements can take two to four weeks and continue for up to six months.
We here at Laser Med Spa recommend a series of three to six treatments, spaced four to six weeks apart, for optimal results. Certain conditions like stretch marks, acne scars, hyperpigmentation and deep wrinkles may require between six and eight treatments.
